Prime Minister’s Information and Communication Technology Advisor Sajeeb Wazed Joy inaugurated ‘Postal Money’ in Bangladesh Postal Department.
Joy inaugurated this service at a function organized at the conference room of the Postal and Telecommunications Department at the Secretariat on Monday noon.
Bank accounts can now be opened in two offices through post office. Customers can access the account using mobile and use money (digital financial services). But always keep the minimum two taka in the account.
Sajeeb Wazed Joy said, “I am so excited to inaugurate this service in the postal department. I am also happy that the bank account opening and account management can be done with minimum two taka. Bangladesh Bank started the process by paying 5 rupees.
Joy said, ‘Daka Money’ was introduced to bring those under banking facilities (Anbank) to their banking facilities. Due to the introduction of post money service, now people living outside the banking system will get the banking facility.
He also said, “In the village or union level there is usually no branch of the bank. It takes a lot of money and time to make a bank account. That’s why the service is being brought to the people of the village through post office so that they can get money, pay allowances and expenses in the village.
State minister for postal and telecommunication Tarana Halim said, “The postal department will be completely digital by 2021. Our goal is to bring 3 million unbanked people under this service by 2018. ‘
The service was inaugurated by opening the account with the mobile number of Tangail resident of Morjina Begum. Morzina Begum has no bank account.
BTRC chairman was present at the program. Shahjahan Mahmud The Additional Secretary Md. Saiful Islam Daimyani and ITCL are offering technical assistance in the postal money.
